Language Games

(Under Construction)

There are tons of good language learning games available online.

The most popular one we use in Castlebrae is Linguascope, available in French, German, Spanish, Italian and English as a Foreign Language. It provides a good selection of themes and levels appropriate to the British education system. Only downside, you can only access part of the site without a subscription. I do highly recommend to Languages Department to invest: it makes it easier to teach bottom set classes and makes language learning a fun experience (Plus, with the one year subscription, I got a free colourful mug!)

Another website requiring a subscription is Quia. It is a useful site allowing teachers to make up their own online game appropriate for their own classes. Pupil progress can also be tracked.
You can, however, access the different games without have to pay, but you will not be able to adapt them to your teaching.

Some games are not available online, but as a software to be purchased:

Red Herring is a murder mystery game available in both French and German. The pupil is the detective going round the town interrogating people about the murder of Max Herring and has to solve language puzzles to get forensics information.

There is a list of Languages games available for purchase here.

Feel free to add to the list by editing the page. Don't forget to make a note of your changes in the page history log.
